Tremblant’s next mountain expansion is aimed predominantly at the skiers who are learning, progressing and travelling together, offering an interesting signal about the customers the Canadian resort wants to serve. For the accommodation market, the shape of that investment may be as significant as the amount being spent.

The Quebec resort announced on 1 September that its CAD$42.5 million Timber Summit project will add 62 acres and eight trails on Versant Soleil, with opening planned for winter 2027/28. Beginner terrain will account for 35% of the addition and intermediate terrain 60%, leaving 5% for experts; a new high-speed quad chairlift is designed to carry 2,400 people an hour.

An earlier phase is planned for winter 2026/27, when a 1.1-acre learning area with a covered conveyor lift is due to open near the Casino Express gondola. The project includes snowmaking throughout the new terrain, while the main expansion updates plans first announced in 2020. Club Med is also promoting a forthcoming Tremblant resort, planned for winter 2028, adding a separate accommodation dimension to the development of Versant Soleil.

The emphasis on accessible skiing provides a useful way to assess the project beyond the usual tally of new trails. A family group may contain confident adults, younger children and complete beginners, which means the quality of its holiday depends partly on whether those people can spend time near one another without every outing becoming a transport exercise.

A well-positioned learning area can therefore influence the appeal of nearby accommodation through convenience rather than spectacle. Easy access to lessons, equipment and a comfortable place to regroup may help a property serve those customers, although the value of that convenience will depend on the actual pedestrian routes and operating arrangements once the development opens.

For owners and developers, the announcement suggests a set of practical questions about product fit. Properties designed around couples or experienced skiers may respond differently from accommodation offering flexible sleeping arrangements, family dining space and storage for several sets of equipment, even when they share the same resort address.

The distinction also travels well to Japan, where international coverage often concentrates on snowfall and specialist skiing. Those qualities can sit alongside a separate commercial question about how easily a destination accommodates mixed-ability groups, especially when guests are unfamiliar with the language, transport system and layout of the village.

Tremblant has announced a mountain investment programme, rather than evidence of future room rates or residential price growth. Its relevance for the wider resort market is the clarity of the intended customer: a large majority of the new skiing is designed for beginners and intermediates, giving accommodation businesses a concrete basis for considering how their own offering might fit.
